The beans remain green for the first few minutes and they then attain a light yellow color. Once the internal water content dissipates, you can hear the cracking sound. Do not get worried about this. This is when the real roasting begins. This happens because the sugar gets caramelized and the water in it escapes. The process is generally considered to be complete once you hear the first 'crack'. You can look out for the fragrance that can give you a cue about the end of this process. Once the beans start expanding in size, it turns dark in color. Sometimes, tiny pieces of the beans are blown away during the crackling process. Eventually, this process breaks down the structure of the beans completely.
Heat water for half a minute, and mix the instant coffee, sugar, and flavoring with it. Leave it in the fridge for 10 minutes, and then pour the milk into it. Mix well and finish by plopping in the ice cubes. Of course, you can also use other flavors, such as cinnamon, ginger, and basil.
For this easy recipe, first, fill the bottom of the coffee cup with caramel syrup. Then, gently pour the freshly brewed espresso over the caramel layer. Do not mix the liquids, and top them with foamed milk. Your caramel macchiato is almost ready. Now, you can top these liquids with caramel topping and whipped cream.
Then, boil the milk in a container. Add the sugar and ground coffee/instant coffee to the milk, and stir well so that the ingredients completely dissolve in the milk.
