☞ Among the fair trade facts, an important one is that, on every pound of coffee imported, there is a fixed price of $1.26, that is irrespective of the current market price, that the importer has to pay. This is a part of the certification of fair trade. As per the rules, the importer, has to pledge in writing, about willing to pay this as minimum price for a pound of coffee. The certification also terms that the purchaser has to provide credit to the farmers, along with other aids like helping in transition, organic farming, etc.
Coffee is pretty big in Croatia, with a culture that developed under the influence of both the Turkish Ottoman Empire and Italy. People here enjoy all kinds of coffees - from cappuccino and lattes, Turkish coffee or instant Nescafe, each type has its lovers and haters, the focus being on the leisurely experience.
Cafes here are places of meeting friends and acquaintances, reading, or simply relaxing and enjoying a cup of Mocha. Tables are also occupied by people working on their laptops or tabs, beckoned by the free wi-fi that most cafes provide, often for hours. Like everything else, Americans prefer their coffees large, sweet, and unlike most coffee-devotees, blended either with water or milk.
☞ This eventually encourages healthy farming, and an Eco friendly effort, benefiting the environment. Reason being, small scale farmers do not abuse forest or other land to develop crop, they will make sure they farm in small but mostly organic environment. This awareness and information on fair trade can help get more consumers as, with a wise thought on the whole process, people will only want to buy fair trade products.
