By 1000 A.D., Arabia started to brew roasted coffee beans and by the 13th century, the Muslims were drinking coffee regularly. This 'bean broth' became the best concoction to help the worshipers stay awake in the night and worship the Almighty. Thus, coffee began to spread around the world with the Muslim traders to North Africa, eastern Mediterranean and India. But the clever traders of Arabia, parched or boiled the beans to make them infertile, so they could only be grown in Arabia and Africa.
What we eat and drink makes an impact on our body. While nutrition is one issue, what about artificial additives? The use of pesticides, fertilizers, growth supplements etc., in short, anything that is chemical and is added to make plants grow faster, ultimately ends up in our digestive systems and accumulates. The presence of such additives takes a toll on the environment as well.
Try to develop a taste for black coffee. It may take a while, but as you have seen, it is almost a zero-calorie drink. To start off with, purchase a black coffee and add the additives on your own. In this way, you can slowly reduce the amount you put and in turn, reduce the amount of calories consumed.
Bring water to boil in a small coffee pot. Remove the coffee pot from heat and add the freshly grounded coffee along with the cardamom pod. Place the coffee pot back to heat and allow it to come to a gentle boil. When foam comes to the top, remove from heat. Pour the Turkish coffee into small teacups and allow it to sit for sometime so that the coffee grounds settle at the bottom of the cup. It is always served with foam on top.
